ADAO is excited to attend the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation Symposium (MARF) in Washington D.C. this coming week. ADAO supports MARF whole-heartedly, and we are honored to have the opportunity to reconnect with a great organization that is dedicated to eradicating mesothelioma. Our solidarity is our strongest asset to prevent asbestos exposure and to find a cure.
The MARF Symposium provides important information about mesothelioma and research on the disease, but it is also a cathartic experience for mesothelioma patients and their families. On July 11th, the mesothelioma community will head to The Hill for “Advocacy Day” to increase Congressional awareness and encourage that additional money be allocated to funding research. Later that evening, there is a private gathering for the “Celebration of Life: Memorial Ceremony” to honor and remember our loved ones.
Since Alan was diagnosed in 2003, I have always attended the MARF symposiums to learn from the experts and to connect and share with our mesothelioma community. This year you can watch the live stream of the presentation online beginning on July 12 at 8:00am EST.
On behalf of ADAO, we would like to congratulate the 2012 MARF Gala Celebration of Hope Dinner honoree for their dedication:
- Dr. David Sugarbaker, (Pioneer Award)
- Bonnie Anderson, (Bruce Vento Hope Builder Award)
- Erica Iacono and Janice Malkotsis (Klaus Brauch Volunteer of the Year Award)
Presently, the only two ways to eliminate environmental and occupational asbestos-caused diseases are prevention and a cure. We have known for decades that asbestos is a human carcinogen and there is no safe level of exposure. The facts are strong, yet the United States has yet to join the 55 other countries who have banned asbestos
ADAO is truly looking forward to progress in the fight against mesothelioma and asbestos.

In unity,
Linda
