Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization Legislative Positions (June 2015)

Posted on May 31, 2015

ADAO State Leadership Team CANVAFresh off the heels of last week’s kick off conference call with Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is pleased to announce the launch of its new State Leadership Team (SLT)! With seven different asbestos-related bills being discussed in Congress this spring (S. 697, S. 725, TSCA Modernization Act H.R. 2576, S. 700, H.R. 2030, S. 357, H.R. 526), now more than ever we need to unify our voices in order to be heard.  SLT members – one from each U.S. state – will represent asbestos victims from their state and across the nation by serving as a resource for the media, focal point for lawmakers, and distributor of asbestos awareness information. Members will be coordinated by three regional Legislative Coordinators: Ann Samuelson (Western Region), Marilyn Amento (Northeastern Region), and Heather Von St. James (Midwestern Region).

Currently, SLT members represent victims from 33 states, but ADAO would like to find asbestos victims and/or family members from the 17 additional states.  If you know someone from the following states with an asbestos story to share, please encourage them to reach out to us through our Share Your Story platform: Alaska, Delaware, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Thank you to Senator Boxer and her office for their encouraging support of SLT, and to our SLT members for their selfless service to protect public health!  Together, we make change happen..  Remember, “Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention.”

In unity,

Linda
