ADAO is celebrating the selection of documentary film Inextinguible (“Inextinguishable”) for New York City’s 2019 Films Infest Festival. Telling the story of Mesothelioma Warrior, Ana Cecilia Niño, whose asbestos exposure helped spur the #ColombiaSinAsbesto movement, the film is a powerful, moving piece of art-as-activism.

The film’s screening comes on the heels of Colombia’s recent landmark federal asbestos ban, which was in no small part brought about by the work of Niño, her husband, Daniel Pineda, Senator Nadia Blel, and many others.

For any able to attend, the screening will be held on Oct. 17, 2019 at 5pm EST, at the Producers Club in New York City. The Films Infest Facebook page has all relevant scheduling information.

Inextinguible was directed and produced by Colombian-born filmmaker Felipe Rico Atara. Through interviews with victims, medical experts, and advocates – including segments with ADAO – he told a powerful story of a soon-to-be victorious national movement.

ADAO was privileged to have Atara speak at our 2019 Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference last April, during a panel about the use of art and film in the ban asbestos movement. His opening remarks can be viewed here. We also previously attended a 2018 conference in Bogota, Colombia where Atara’s work was showcased.

Inextinguible continues to screen around the world, having just been presented in Mallorca, Spain. ADAO is immensely grateful for our connection to Atara, and we are proud to have worked with such a committed, talented artist. Our movement is stronger when we work across national boundaries, and Inextinguible is a perfect example of this. Together we can create real change.
