We must prevent asbestos exposure to eliminate environmental and occupational asbestos-caused diseases. Asbestos mines are not exclusive to one country, asbestos is a global problem, and it needs to be banned accordingly. If it is not, deadly asbestos exposure will continue. It has been truly encouraging to see so many different nations come together in the global fight against asbestos (ADAO’s 8th Asbestos Awareness Conference had nine different countries represented). Collaboration leads to innovation, which has really struck a chord with the people fighting asbestos production. Progression and new ideas are the way to creating a better, safer future. Stagnant ideas lead us nowhere, and we need change to fight asbestos. At the Global Health & Innovation Conference at Yale University, ADAO presented Leveraging Social Media Advocacy to Build a Culture of Disease Prevention. This presentation focused on innovation and implementation by highlighting new social media advocacy trends, especially social storytelling. ADAO has pioneered new ways of shaping public policy on a global level by using social media, mobile technology, and new media. We are so honored to have been part of so many conferences, and we look forward to change.
