The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is honored to mark a historic milestone at our 20th International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference in New York City. On September 12–13, 2025, we will unveil the 10th poster in BADGES: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers by award-winning photographer Earl Dotter. Titled “Science. Prevention. Justice.”, this new work honors Dr. Irving Selikoff and his enduring legacy.

Honoring Dr. Selikoff’s Legacy at Mount Sinai

It is especially meaningful that this milestone takes place at Mount Sinai, where Dr. Irving Selikoff founded the nation’s first Environmental and Occupational Medicine Center. Dr. Selikoff’s groundbreaking research in the 1960s revealed the devastating health impacts of asbestos, sparking global awareness and laying the foundation for public health protections. His center, now the Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health, continues to protect workers and communities, carrying forward his legacy of prevention and justice.

Holding our 20th conference in the very same place where Selikoff’s pioneering work began is both a tribute and a reminder. Scientific truth, advocacy, and resilience have always been the drivers of change, and they remain essential today.

The Power of the BADGES Series

Since 2015, Earl Dotter’s BADGES posters have embodied the intersection of art, advocacy, and action. Each installment has captured a pivotal moment or theme in the fight against asbestos:

Each poster has amplified voices, memorialized lives, and mobilized action. Together, they create a living history of the asbestos crisis and the prevention movement.

Introducing the 2025 Poster

The 10th BADGES poster honors Dr. Irving Selikoff and his enduring legacy. “Science. Prevention. Justice.” continues the series’ storytelling tradition through powerful imagery, showcasing the bravery of those impacted, the determination of advocates, and the urgent need for legislative action to end asbestos use once and for all.

More than art, this poster is testimony. It reminds us that behind every statistic are real people, families, and communities forever changed by asbestos exposure.

In many ways, “Science. Prevention. Justice.” brings the BADGES series full circle. The very first poster in 2015 honored Dr. Selikoff’s groundbreaking work, and a decade later, the 10th once again pays tribute to his lasting influence. From the beginning, his science exposed the truth about asbestos. Today, his legacy continues to inspire prevention, advocacy, and the pursuit of justice.

As ADAO celebrates 20 years of advocacy, our partnership with Earl Dotter remains a cornerstone of this work. His photography bridges past and present, connecting Selikoff’s pioneering science to today’s fight for prevention and policy. We are deeply grateful to Earl for a decade of powerful posters that inform, inspire, and ignite change.

Earl, working with you on ADAO posters is always such a joy and privilege as they capture our history, celebrate our efforts, and remind us of the path ahead. We all thank you.

In unity,

Linda Reinstein
