Join us for the upcoming Global Asbestos Awareness Week on April 1 – 7!
Each year, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization works with the U.S. Senate to draft and pass the National Asbestos Awareness Week Resolution designating April 1-7 as a week of awareness about the dangers of asbestos and how to prevention exposure.
Since founding ADAO in 2004, we have worked with the U.S. Senate to unanimously pass 18 Asbestos Awareness Week Resolutions and secure eight U.S. Surgeon General asbestos warnings. In 2021 U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy stated: “This week (April 1-7) is #NationalAsbestosAwarenessWeek. Even during the COVID19 Pandemic, other public health challenges remain priorities. Asbestos is a natural mineral fiber that can be used in homes, buildings, or products. If you think you have been exposed to asbestos or want to learn more, talk with your health care provider.″
ADAO and our Partners for Prevention will advance awareness, prevention and education during the week Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) “Asbestos: One word. One week. One world.”While promising research continues, prevention remains the only cure. When it comes to asbestos and mesothelioma, knowledge truly is power. GAAW, throughout recent history, has played an impactful role in the collective mission to end asbestos importation and use once and for all.
Building on strength and collaboration between our partners, this year’s GAAW will focus on:
- Banning the mining, manufacturing, and use of all six asbestos fibers around the world
- Preventing asbestos exposure
- Increasing compliance and enforcement of existing laws and regulations
- Strengthening international partnerships to protect public health

- Send Your #BanAsbestos Letter to Congress: Americans Need the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act (ARBAN) Now. Tell Congress we need a comprehensive asbestos ban on imports and use with loopholes or exemptions. Our international ban asbestos allies are encouraged to send in their letters too.
