“If You Think it’s Asbestos, it Probably Is”

In the 28 years that I’ve worked at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), it’s become very clear to me just how significant of a threat asbestos really is. While most Americans think the fiber is illegal, it frequently turns up in homes, schools, commercial properties, and other sources and, if not handled properly by a professional, can lead to exposure, significant health problems, and – often – death. Asbestos represents a common and significant threat to individuals in the U.S. and around the world and awareness is truly the only way to save lives.
