We have been touched by asbestos in individual ways, yet we are joined together by a bond of community. As a testament to the strength of our global family, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is highlighting the courageous stories of our members with the “Share Your Story” feature on our website.

This week, we would like to honor the story of Tom, as shared by his wife, Lisa, who is a part of our ADAO family.

We encourage you to submit your personal stories by clicking here and following the simple instructions on the page. In sharing, comes healing. Remember, you are not alone.

“Life is Precious” – Tom’s Story

Name: Tom

Location: Florida

Date of Diagnosis: 12-SEP-2011

Diagnosis: Mesothelioma

1951 – 2013

How has asbestos changed your life?

Asbestos has changed my life forever as I lost the person I loved unconditionally in life. I feel such profound sadness that I lost my dear husband and not a single day goes by that I don’t mourn his loss. Images of what he went through are etched in my mind. He was such a positive person who lived every moment with joy and he never let the disease get him down. I wish I could say the same thing. This disease has had such a devastating impact on everyone in our family and we will forever feel his loss and the love he shared with us. I will love you forever Tom. You left a lasting legacy and your “teachings” are forever with us. We ALL love you so very much and miss you tremendously. The title of this story are the words he said to me a week before he died which have stayed with me ever since.
