This week we feature the band Lumpy Gravy! Lumpy Gravy was formed in the fall of 2012 in the desire to form a band that had little or no boundaries on what genre of music they would play. Lumpy Gravy was born.
The idea for Lumpy Gravy came about in November of 2012. Mike Alexander (The Hornets, Jacuzzi Brothers) and Phil Thompson (Snakey Billy, SAB, No Heroes) wanted to form a band with few boundaries. Originally just focusing on cover music, they started working on original material. Dan Alexander (Jacuzzi Brothers) came into the mix soon after. The band was then joined by a singer/songwriter in Damien Thompson (Jacuzzi Brothers) and drummer Garrett Pierson (Old Boy Network, Grant’s Band, The Hornets) in the summer of 2013. The name of the band comes from a Frank Zappa album with a potpourri of musical styles on it. They play a wide variety of styles with the core probably being rhythm and blues, with original music tapping a wide variety of colors. They are playing the benefit because a member was personally affected by this horrible disease, and because people really need to become aware of the fact that this country is still importing asbestos.
Check back next week to read about Mandown, and don’t miss a great evening with ADAO and all of our talented performers in Omaha on September 26. See you then!
In unity,
Linda
