Each year we mark Mesothelioma Awareness Day on September 26, but this year I say we step it up a notch! Our momentum toward a ban has never been stronger, so let’s seize this opportunity and make September Mesothelioma Awareness Month!

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Org. (ADAO) has a variety of ways for you to get involved throughout the month — most of which you can participate in right from  your computer screen:

1. Raise Your Voice || 6-Word Quotes

Turn your anger into action! Submit your six-word quote, along with a photo, about how asbestos or mesothelioma has impacted your life to be featured in ADAO’s latest advocacy campaign. Submission deadline: September 20, 2017.

2. Memorial Dedication Video

We’re working on 2017 Mesothelioma Warrior Memorial Dedication Video to honor and remember the loved ones we have lost. If you are interested in your Mesothelioma Warrior being included in the 2017 memorial video, all you have to do is complete this simple form and attach their photo. The deadline for 2017 video submissions is September 5, 2017 at 9 pm PT.

3. Sign and Share the Ban Asbestos Petition

Mid-month, we’ll be submitting our petition for an exemption-free asbestos ban into the EPA’s permanent record. We’ve collected more than 10,000 signatures already, but our goal is 25,000 Join us on the right side of history! Sign and share the petition today to spread the word.

4. Mesothelioma Awareness Day Twitter Chat on September 26

On September 26, from 12-1 PM ET, ADAO will be hosting our #ENDMeso Twitter Chat, where victims, experts, advocates, and concerned citizens can connect, share, and spread asbestos awareness. During this hour-long Twitter Chat, ADAO will tweet a series of questions about asbestos awareness and personal experiences with mesothelioma, sparking a global conversation about the dangers of asbestos. More details coming soon!

5. Candle Lighting for Mesothelioma Awareness Day September 26

Join patients, families, and friends from around the world on September 26 for the 2017 Mesothelioma Awareness Day Candle Lighting Tradition. We will light candles to remember the Mesothelioma Warriors we have lost and to honor the Warriors who continue to bravely battle this awful disease. More details to come soon.

6. Miles for Meso Charity 5K and Virtual Race

Mesothelioma Warriors and ADAO supporters near and far are invited to join the 9th Annual Miles for Meso 5K Race and 3K Walk/Fun-Run, which raised a record $40,000 for ADAO’s asbestos awareness and education efforts last year. The race takes place in Alton, Illinois on September 30, but if you can’t make it to the event in person, fear not! Join ADAO’s Virtual Team and participate from the comfort of your computer screen.

We are on the front lines of asbestos awareness and prevention — and together, we will make change happen.
