Mesothelioma Awareness Continues Throughout September
Screen shot 2014-08-25 at 10.49.23 AM

For the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), mesothelioma awareness occurs every day of the year, but during the month of September, we unite with other organizations in support of Mesothelioma Warriors we know, love, and remember. Since prevention is the only cure for asbestos disease, awareness can literally save lives. ADAO will publish a special edition newsletter in honor of Mesothelioma Awareness Day, featuring nearly 100 Share Your Stories, interviews with members of our community who are organizing awareness events, and much more.  This year, ADAO is honored to benefit from three very special events for Mesothelioma Awareness Day.

The ADAO “Make a Pie, Take a Pie” Ban-Asbestos Challenge, organized by Jessica Mattmuller and Donna Johnson, is dedicated to raising awareness and fighting the misconception that asbestos has been banned in the United States. Participating is easy, simple, fun and, most importantly, raises life-saving asbestos awareness. If someone challenges you or  you just want to participate, simply make a video challenging loved ones or friends, share one of the 5 asbestos facts, and “take a pie” OR make a $50 donation to ADAO! The challenge is on!!

Jammin’ for Asbestos Awareness is a family-friendly concert, organized by the Rahe family in loving memory of Meso Warrior Bob Rahe. The event takes place on September 26 at 7 pm at the Slowdown in Omaha, Nebraska. Come celebrate with us at an exciting program of seven musicians, headlined by Jordan Zevon, ADAO’s National Spokesperson. You can purchase tickets online or at the door. ADAO sincerely thanks the Rahe Family and their organizing committee in advance of this wonderful event.

The 6th Annual Miles for Meso 5K Race and Fun Run will be held in Alton, Illinois at 8:30 am on September 27. To honor and support our ADAO community, we have formed the Mesothelioma Warrior Virtual Team. This unique team is comprised of Warriors who are courageously fighting mesothelioma or have lost their battles. Each Miles for Meso Race Day runner will wear the name of a Warrior on his/her jersey. ADAO will design a photo collage of the people on the Virtual Team and snap a Race Day photo of the actual runners holding the collage. No fee is required for the Virtual Team; however, if you would like to support ADAO by purchasing a t-shirt from the event or register for the race click here.

ADAO like to thank our Mesothelioma Warrior Virtual Team Captains Herman, Lou, Ann, Heather, Sandra, Courtney, Jessica, and Jennifer for their hard work in making this first team event a success.

For all three of these events, all proceeds will be donated to ADAO. Below is a list of September events to raise asbestos awareness. Wherever you are, we hope you’ll find an event you can attend!

ADAO congratulates MARF on their success in obtaining “National Mesothelioma Awareness Day” proclamations by both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.

Together, we make change happen.
