November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. In the United States, asbestos-caused lung cancer claims more than 5,000 lives every year.
People often ask me – What’s the difference between mesothelioma and lung cancer? Mesothelioma is often miscategorized as lung cancer. Simply said, both cancers can develop after asbestos exposure; however, mesothelioma commonly develops in the lining of the lung, abdomen, or heart and lung cancer develops inside the lung itself.
On Thursday, November 14th, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA), the world’s largest lung cancer advocacy organization, will kick off their 5th Annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil! This is the largest internationally-coordinated awareness event for lung cancer and takes place every November.
What can YOU do to raise awareness during Lung Cancer Awareness Month?
- Join the LCA in lighting a candle on Thursday, November 14 to honor those whose lives have been impacted by lung cancer. You can light a candle at your home, at one of many locations coordinated by the Alliance, or digitally via ADAO’s website.
- Have you or a loved one been impacted by lung cancer? Share your story with ADAO. Each voice counts, every story makes a difference.
Together, change is possible.
