The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) and Canadian Voices of Asbestos Victims (CV AV) have allied to draft and support the North American Petition to Eliminate Asbestos-Related Disease. The petition has been a tremendous success thus far and we have already surpassed our goal of 1,000 signatures. Our deadline of July 20 for petition signatures is rapidly approaching; if you have not already done so, please take a moment to read and sign the petition, forward it to friends and family, and share with your social circle.

The international petition lays out in simple terms the facts about asbestos, and the need for a full and complete ban of this deadly mineral within North America. We are asking that our nations’ leaders listen to the voices of the over 1,000 people who have already signed, and engage in the following:

–       Stop the North American production and use of all types of asbestos

–       End the North American exportation of asbestos to the developing world

–       Replace asbestos with safe and alternative substitutes

–       Take measures to prevent exposure to asbestos still in place and engage in proper asbestos removal and disposal

–       Support and improve early diagnosis, treatment, and social and medical rehabilitation of asbestos victims

The United States and Canada are the only two industrial nations that have yet to ban asbestos, while 55 other countries around the world already have.

So please, sign the petition, and let’s make our voices heard! The only two ways to eliminate environmental and occupational asbestos-caused diseases are prevention and cure, and this petition can be the first step towards wide scale prevention in North America.

In unity,

Linda
