The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization is excited to announce our 10th virtual zoom event,  “Preventing Asbestos Exposure in the Workplace: Conversation with Celeste Monforton and Mark Caitlin about the Past, Present, and Future”. The event will feature Celeste Monforton, DrPH, MPH, ADAO Prevention and Scientific Advisory Board Liaison, and Mark Catlin, ADAO Prevention Advisory Board member, on Tuesday, May 11th, at 2:00 pm ET.

Celeste is the ADAO Prevention and Scientific Advisory Board Liaison and a lecturer in public health at Texas State University.  She is the co-author of the new book, On The Job: The Untold Story Of Worker Centers And The New Fight For Wages, Dignity, and Health (The New Press, May 2021).

Mark is the former Occupational Health and Safety Director (retired) for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing two million healthcare, service, and public workers in the United States and Canada.

As leaders in occupational  health and safety, they will discuss:

  • How asbestos has and continues to impact workers and their families
  • Legacy asbestos in the workplace and the community
  • Educational and prevention efforts from the occupational safety and health coalitions and unions
  • Collective activism: advancing ban asbestos legislation policy efforts
  • Celeste will also discuss her first involvement with a worker center which revolved around asbestos-cement pipe in Houston and two brave immigrant workers.
  • Mark will also discuss his decades of work with SEIU and an amazing collection of early asbestos video clips

Due to Zoom security, registration is required

We encourage you to invite your friends and colleagues to this wonderful conversation with Celeste and Mark.

As we always say, together, we make change possible!
