As 2025 draws to a close, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) looks to enter its 21st year of evidence-based advocacy to prevent asbestos exposure, eliminate asbestos-related diseases, and strengthen community support. Who We Are
Founded in 2004 after the death of Alan Reinstein due to mesothelioma, ADAO is the largest independent U.S. nonprofit dedicated solely to asbestos prevention. Led by co-founders Linda Reinstein and Doug Larkin, ADAO unites patients, survivors, families, physicians, scientists, unions, and public health leaders to push for stronger protections and a full U.S. asbestos ban.
We are constantly in contact with our Science and Prevention Advisory Boards and Leadership Board, which consists of scientists, researchers, doctors, lawyers, victims, and advocacy-led individuals who bring their expertise and lived experience to guide ADAO in a strategic direction that is grounded in both scientific rigor and profound human understanding.

It powers our direct work with federal agencies like the EPA, OSHA, CDC, and NIOSH to strengthen protections and enforcement.
