The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) today announced that it is encouraged by the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection’s Hearing on “Prioritizing Chemicals for Safety Determination”. The hearing examined the options for prioritizing chemicals for safety determinations in the event that the Committee amends the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization Applauds American Public Health Association’s Call for Ban on Asbestos, Annual Warnings for Workers in High-Risk Occupations

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) applauds the American Public Health Association (APHA), the largest and most diverse public health organization in the world. APHA adopted a resolution calling on Congress to pass legislation banning the manufacture, sale, export, or import of asbestos containing products including products in which asbestos is a contaminant. Asbestos, a known carcinogen, annually claims the lives of more than 10,000 Americans.

ADAO Congratulates the Acting U.S. Surgeon General, Steven K. Galson, and Thanks the U.S. Senate for Efforts to Encourage Warning about Asbestos Dangers

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) today announced its support for the Surgeon General’s statement acknowledging the dangers of asbestos and thanks the U.S. Senate for continued efforts to encourage a warning. The discovery of the April 1, 2009 Acting U.S. Surgeon General statement is greatly appreciated by ADAO, who has always encouraged an official warning about asbestos dangers, as recommended by a U.S. Senate Resolution establishing the first week of April as “National Asbestos Awareness Week.” The statement specifies: “I urge every American to become aware of the public health issues of asbestos exposure and the steps they can take to protect their health.” It also underscores the need for a ban, stating, “…there is no level of asbestos exposure that is known to be safe and minimizing your exposure will minimize your risk of developing asbestos-related disease.”

Proposed Settlement with CBS and Toy Retailers to Give Refunds for ‘CSI’ Toy Fingerprint Kits That May Contain Asbestos

Public Justice and the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization announced today that a proposed settlement of a nationwide class action against CBS Broadcasting, Inc. and major toy retailers, if approved, will give cash refunds to consumers and effectively implement a nationwide recall of toy science kits, based on the popular “CSI” television drama series, that may contain asbestos. Scientific and Medical Facts about Chrysotile Asbestos Released by the Environmental Information Association and the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization

The Environmental Information Association (EIA) and the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) today announced the development of the Chrysotile Asbestos Fact Sheet (CAFS). The EIA and ADAO concluded, along with the majority of scientific agencies, that there is sufficient evidence to support that all forms of asbestos, including chrysotile, are carcinogenic and are responsible for asbestos-related lung cancer, mesothelioma, laryngeal and ovarian cancers.

September 7, 2008 will mark five years since the world lost one of its greatest musicians and song writers, and a still mourning family lost an irreplaceable part of its lineage.
