DAY THREE – April 3: Asbestos: Art, Advocacy, and Action
On Day Three of Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW), we celebrate the powerful intersection of art, advocacy, and action. Through creative expression and personal storytelling, we elevate the human impact of asbestos-related diseases and mobilize the change we urgently need.
Today, we honor Jordan Zevon, ADAO’s National Spokesperson, as he reflects on the life and legacy of his father, the legendary musician Warren Zevon, whose life was cut short by mesothelioma. In his deeply personal tribute, “My Hero, the World’s Hero,” Jordan captures the profound love, loss, and enduring inspiration of his father’s journey. His unwavering advocacy and creative contributions continue to raise public awareness and build momentum for legislative reform.
We also spotlight the extraordinary work of photojournalist Earl Dotter, whose moving poster series, BADGES: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers, visually captures the human cost of exposure. Earl’s art stands as both a tribute and a rallying cry, reminding us that statistics represent real people, families, and communities forever changed.
At the heart of today’s theme is this truth: asbestos is not just a historical hazard—it remains a current and deadly threat. As Dr. Arthur Frank, a respected member of ADAO’s Science Advisory Board, reminds us: “There is no safe level of exposure to asbestos, a known carcinogen, and it becomes dangerous when the microscopic asbestos fibers become dislodged and airborne.”
We are proud to stand alongside our Partner for Prevention, the Collegium Ramazzini, an esteemed international academy of experts in environmental and occupational health. Their commitment to advancing science-based evidence and global policy has strengthened the global fight to end asbestos exposure.
At ADAO, we believe that art and storytelling are not just tools for awareness—they are catalysts for justice. Through photography, music, and personal accounts, we humanize the data and spark the action needed to protect future generations.

Let today serve as a reminder: art is more than expression—it is a force for advocacy, memory, and lasting change.
Art moves us. Advocacy drives us. Action defines us.
