Global Asbestos Awareness Week 2026: Education Across Seven Languages for One Global Goal

DAY SEVEN – April 7, 2026 | Virtual Candlelight Vigil to Honor and Remember Asbestos Victims Worldwide

On this final day of Global Asbestos Awareness Week, we gather in a global Candlelight Vigil to honor and remember the lives forever changed, and too often cut short, by asbestos-related diseases.

ADAO dedicates this day to the memory of Mavis Nye: Our extraordinary friend, mesothelioma warrior, and enduring beacon of hope. Her 14-year journey with mesothelioma, as well as the support given to her every step of the way by her devoted husband, Ray, inspired thousands around the world. Her words remain a powerful call to action: “I fight on for all our Meso Warriors past, present, and future.”

We also debut our 2026 Press Release and the 30-second PSA “Азбест: Вбивця, якого ви не бачите”, both translated into Ukrainian. These tools are designed to reach new audiences and reinforce a crucial truth: this crisis is far from over.

Our multilingual outreach continues, which allows us to spread life-saving information to communities in Arabic, French, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian, ensuring that the message of prevention crosses every border. We believe there should never be an obstacle to life-saving information or resources, and we will continue to lower as many barriers as possible.

We extend our sincere thanks to the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) for their steadfast commitment to preventing asbestos exposure and protecting worker health. Their expertise, leadership, and long-standing dedication to occupational safety continue to strengthen our shared mission to end asbestos-related diseases worldwide. As Professor Kevin Bampton of BOHS warns us: “The WHO estimates that twice as many people will die as a result of the asbestos industry as from uncontrolled climate change.”

We are also deeply grateful to every donor, supporter, sponsor, partner, and advocate who has stood with ADAO from the earliest days to today. Your sustained support has made it possible to expand education, advance advocacy, and provide critical resources to communities around the world.

Building on this week’s strong engagement and momentum, Global Asbestos Awareness Week efforts will continue throughout April, extending opportunities to share resources, amplify voices, and advance prevention.

As we reflect on this collective impact, we invite you to tag or mention yourself, your group, or your organization and share how you participated, whether a post, event, story, or moment of remembrance, while using the hashtag #2026GAAW so we can easily see your post. Every voice matters, and we want to recognize yours.

DAY SEVEN ACTION: Light a candle in honor of the victims and share your tribute.
