While we await the Surgeon General’s warning, we also highlight the message from Prof. Seong-Kyu Kang, President, International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) quote, “Cancers caused by asbestos exposure can develop years after exposure, even if you don’t recall it happening. We must ban asbestos now to protect against this invisible threat. The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) has consistently advocated for a global ban on asbestos and the prevention of asbestos-related diseases.”
Each year, Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) highlights the urgent issue of asbestos, which kills 40,000 Americans annually. Through education, advocacy, and action, we can end this man-made disaster once and for all.
To strengthen that global effort, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is releasing new multilingual asbestos prevention fliers, seven public service announcement (PSA) videos, and prevention graphics: all available in the table below in English, French, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian.
These tools help break down barriers and empower individuals, families, and workers to protect themselves and their communities. Each PSA delivers a concise message about the dangers of asbestos and the importance of prevention, complementing the new fliers. When everyone has access to trusted, multilingual materials, knowledge becomes power.
Knowledge That Saves Lives
Each flier and PSA offers clear, evidence-based facts about asbestos: what it is, how exposure happens, and how to prevent it. There is no safe level of exposure, and prevention is our only cure. By making these materials accessible worldwide, we reach millions who might not otherwise have this information.
Collaboration Without Borders
This multilingual initiative embodies GAAW 2026’s theme: “Asbestos: One Word. One Week. One World.” We thank our international partners, including the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and the British Occupational Hygiene Society, for helping share these resources across their networks. From India to Ukraine, Brazil to France, advocates are using these tools to educate and inspire action. Together, we can eliminate asbestos-related diseases through prevention, compliance, and policy change.
