Without community support, ADAO would never have been able to make the gains we have made, including working alongside Congress on a bill, suing the government for better public health protections, and reaching a global audience. Here are some of the major campaigns that your support makes possible.
A Ban in Congress
In August, Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and John Curtis (R-UT) reintroduced the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act of 2026, with Senator Curtis becoming the first Senate Republican to co-sponsor the bill. The comprehensive bill would ban all asbestos types and fibers in the US and would help protect the public health and wellness of all Americans. Your gift helps us brief congressional staff, as we did at our 20th Congressional Staff Briefing in September, and keep putting the science in front of lawmakers until ARBAN becomes law.
Your Voice, Six Words at a Time
Our Six-Word Quote Campaign invites patients, survivors, families, and workers to tell Congress what they want lawmakers to know about asbestos. We have seen firsthand how impactful true stories are on policymakers and so we turn each quote and photo into a shareable graphic for congressional outreach and social media. Your gift helps us carry those voices to the people who write the laws.
Accountability in Court
In June, ADAO and 17 co-petitioners argued before the Fifth Circuit to defend EPA’s 2024 chrysotile asbestos rule and push for stronger protections. We have also taken legal action to compel EPA to address legacy asbestos, and our Freedom of Information Act lawsuit over the White House East Wing demolition has already produced a court order requiring federal agencies to respond. Legal action takes resources, and your gift helps us do this work independently.
Education and Community All Year Long
From Global Asbestos Awareness Week in April to our 21st Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference in September, from our Health Literacy Month series in October to our free 9/11 Resource Hub, we put clear, trustworthy information into people’s hands. Our Candle Lighting ceremonies honor Mesothelioma Warriors and remind every family that no one faces asbestos alone.
Independent and Powered by You
ADAO is a small organization with a big mission. Our independence lets us speak plainly about the science of asbestos toxicity and the laws that protect it. The support of our community is the reason we can remain independent. Any amount helps us stay transparent, open, and ready to fight for our mission.
Can’t give right now? You can still make a difference. Share this post, submit your six-word quote, or invite a friend to join our community.
Every gift, every share, and every six words brings us closer to a future free from asbestos. Thank you for standing with us.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
With gratitude,
Linda Reinstein Co-Founder & President, ADAO
