We just returned home from the APHA 138th Annual Meeting & Exposition “Social Justice: A Public Health Imperative”.  Drs. Frank, Lemen, Castleman, Erzinger, and I had an incredible opportunity to present at the session entitled: “Disease Prevention and Social Justice: The Case of Asbestos” and Doug Larkin was terrific at navigating  the social media.

Upon closing, we had two wonderful impromptu presenters, Dr. Jeong-ok Kong and Suk-Koun Lee, who shared details about the Korean successful ban asbestos movement. ADAO hopes the 112th Congress can pass legislation that enables us to join the 52 other countries that have banned asbestos.

Meeting Dr. Kong at APHA was a perfect example of social media at its finest.  We met on Facebook and were able to meet face to face at the APHA conference. The power of social media is undeniably revolutionary, dynamic and essential for grassroots organizations to connect and share.

ADAO would like to thank our 2010 sponsors and individuals for their generous donations, as we were able to videotape the presentations for our ADAO Asbestos Video Library
