Join the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) in a critical mission for public health: The 20th Annual Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) from April 1st to 7th, 2024. This vital week is dedicated to increasing global awareness about the dangers of asbestos and championing preventive measures to combat asbestos-related diseases.

Since our founding in 2004, we have  made it our priority to correct the dangerous misconceptions about asbestos and offer lifesaving awareness and education to the public. During the past 20 years of working toward this goal, ADAO has become the global leader in asbestos awareness, prevention and policy, and a powerful voice in Washington, DC. With hours of educational content now available online, ADAO is seen nationally and internationally as the expert to turn to when it comes to asbestos. You can read more about the history of our efforts here.

Throughout the first week of April, ADAO brings together a diverse group of experts, victims, and advocates from across the globe. We unite to share knowledge, experiences, and strategies for combating the asbestos threat. Our program is rich with educational resources, including insightful guest blogs, impactful videos, and powerful stories from asbestos victims –  all provided by leading organizations in the field.

The week culminates in an online candlelight vigil on April 7th, honoring those affected by asbestos-related diseases. This solemn event serves as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to prevention and education.

Asbestos, a known carcinogen, has been extensively used in various industries, including construction, shipbuilding, and automotive manufacturing. Despite its widespread historical use, there is no safe level of asbestos exposure. The presence of asbestos in homes, schools, workplaces, and even consumer products poses a significant health risk. In the United States alone, over 40,000 individuals lose their lives annually to asbestos-caused diseases.

Our focus during this week is on prevention, encapsulated in our guiding motto: “Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention.” By promoting awareness and sharing best practices, we aim to reduce and eventually eliminate asbestos exposure and its devastating health consequences.

Stay informed and engaged as we approach the 20th Annual GAAW. Expect a series of enlightening and empowering activities designed to foster a safer, asbestos-free future. Your involvement is crucial in making this change a reality.

We eagerly anticipate your participation in this significant event. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against asbestos.

In unity,

Linda Reinstein
