For the past 16 years, ADAO’s annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference has brought together medical experts, mesothelioma victims, trade union leaders, lawmakers, activists and loved ones to discuss our joint efforts in asbestos education, advocacy and awareness. The conference is the premiere location to connect with others in the field and make advancements in our fight to rid the world of asbestos. You don’t want to miss out — this year’s conference will be held April 3-5, 2020 in Washington, D.C.

New Capitol Hill Lunch & Congressional Meetings

We are excited to announce a new pre-conference event that will help us implement the power of our knowledge and actions like never before. For the first time within the context of the conference experience, we will be opening up the opportunity for ADAO community members (who have registered for the conference) to meet face to face with Congressional leaders to share their stories and support for the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act

Sessions and Seminars

ADAO is the only U.S. nonprofit that organizes annual conferences dedicated to preventing and eliminating asbestos-caused diseases. Over the years, we have hosted more than 300 speakers, which includes experts from 15 different countries. This year will be no different, with the academic conference sessions beginning at 8:30am on Saturday.

The sessions this year focus on progress and challenges from the frontline of our fight, medical advancements such as diagnosing and treating asbestos-related diseases, prevention efforts, and more. You can see the full sessions schedule here

Community Building

Community building is, and always has been, a profoundly important goal of our annual conferences. Therefore, we are excited to announce that we will be offering  a group lunch at the Capitol for all conference attendees.

We also invite all registered conference guests to a casual dinner on Friday, April 3. We’re proud to get our attendees together every year prior to the formalities of the academic speaker panels, in the interest of breaking the ice. In addition to all of the educational and advocacy-related benefits that our conference can offer, it is our hope that the conference can be a place where like-minded people can connect.

ADAO Awards & Recognition Dinner

We hope you’ll join us for the Gala Awards & Recognition Dinner on Saturday night, where we will celebrate our conference, honor tireless advocates for asbestos victims, and thank our generous conference sponsors. Honorees who will be recognized include award-winning filmmaker Judd Apatow, the Honorable Congressmen John Shimkus and Paul Tonko, The American Federation of Teachers, Dr. Jacqueline M. Moline, Barry Robson, Robert Sussman, and more.

If you cannot attend the entire conference but would like to come celebrate our community at the gala dinner, the cost is just $100. If you do attend the conference, the dinner fee is included in the overall registration price.

Unity and Remembrance Brunch

On Sunday, April 5th, we will enjoy a lovely brunch together, and hear a keynote speech from Mesothelioma Warrior Julie Gundlach. We will come together to light a candle in honor and remembrance of those who have fought, and those who are still fighting their courageous battle against Mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases. Mesothelioma Warriors are always on our mind at ADAO, and we work hard to make sure there is a shared space to recognize and honor them at every conference.

Honor your loved one

We’d like to offer you the opportunity to honor a loved one affected by asbestos by buying a tribute page that will be printed in our conference program, and posted on ADAO’s website. You can also use a tribute page to congratulate an honoree. You can find a list of this year’s honorees here

The conference program is shared with members of the U.S. Congress, international health officials, and at educational events such as Congressional Staff Briefings or regional awareness programs. Designing a tribute page is easy and allows your loved one’s memory to be shared far and wide.
