Solidarity: #2026GAAW Successes in Advancing Asbestos Prevention, Policy, and Action Continue Throughout April

Posted on April 7, 2026

In response to strong global engagement and your support, ADAO is extending Global Asbestos Awareness Week efforts throughout April.

This progress was reinforced by a significant milestone: the week began with the unanimous passage of the U.S. Senate resolution (S.Res. 666), designating April 1–7 as National Asbestos Awareness Week and urging the U.S. Surgeon General to issue an asbestos warning. This bipartisan action underscores a growing national and global commitment to prevention.

We are especially grateful to our Partners for Prevention and organizing partners, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), for their continued leadership, collaboration, and global reach.

The 2026 GAAW campaign expanded multilingual education and digital access by delivering resources in multiple languages through a centralized, user-friendly hub, enabling easy navigation in  French, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. Our GAAW Facebook album features personalized graphics for easy sharing.

2026 Sponsors:

For more than two decades, awareness has driven action as advocates, families, workers, scientists, and policymakers have shared stories and advanced prevention and policy. As momentum continues, we invite you to share how you participated in #2026GAAW by posting, tagging your organization, and using the hashtag so contributions can be recognized.

The simple truth is clear: Asbestos is a known carcinogen with no safe level of exposure, and prevention saves lives.

ADAO remains grounded in its mission to prevent exposure, eliminate asbestos-caused diseases, and advance policies that protect public health worldwide.

Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention.™

Onward. Together.
